I woke up with the stiffest knee ever! I could hardly bend it and had a crazy limp all morning. I went to Bikram and told the teacher what was going on before starting. She said to just set up each pose perfectly and don’t go past the point of it hurting or even to that point really. I did that and it felt good. I just hope this can go away relatively quickly. Its annoying and I got those new running shoes and The Color Run coming up! Maybe I’ll work through it and be even stronger on the other side.
At work we have to have an annual medical exam. And today I had my third in a row. Not to worry! I’m in excellent condition. But I bring this up because I found something interesting. My blood pressure was low, not low in a bad or alarming way but low in a way that made the clinic girl ask if I’m an athlete or what I do for exercise. Now I do not think of myself as an athlete, maybe athletic but athlete would be stretching it. I get regular exercise but the most consistent type in this past year has been yoga. Last year it (blood pressure that is) was also on the lowish side but it now is more so. I also had an EKG done and my resting heart rate is lower than last year as well. Just a note, I do not mean low in an alarming way. I am still in the normal range. The other part of the tests I found interesting was the lung capacity. Apparently I am in the 99th percentile… So is this directly related to yoga? Who’s to say. It’s interesting though. I had the same tests ran last May and it was last July that I started this yoga everyday for one year thing. I certainly feel better and stronger than I did a year ago and these tests seem to back that up.
Just thought I’d share. It is kind of weird, interesting and satisfying seeing your health put into numbers and charts like that and seeing those charts and numbers improve after almost a year of everyday yoga doing.
Cheers!
Watch this and get pumped!
